Just seeing this lovely campground will soothe any road weariness right out of your soul: It’s tucked between the gurgling Tellico River and an apple orchard with thousands of blossoming trees striping three Tennessee hillsides. Rent tubes on-site and toss yourself right into the flowing waters for a fun-filled float or stroll alongside on the campground’s river walk. Feeling adventurous? Sign up with a nearby outfitter for an adrenaline - pumping whitewater raft ride.
The Cherokee National Forest begins right outside the gates, home to waterfalls, hiking paths and scenic drives like the Cherohala Skyway, which winds over 6,000-foot mountains and into North Carolina. But you might have a hard time getting the kids in the car: The Tellico Plains KOA gets high marks for its playground.
